Details
The free fluid flow between the supply bag and the balloon, the amount of pressure applied can be varied by changing the height of the supply bag.
As the uterus contracts, the free-flow system responds, working in harmony with the patient’s normal physiological processes. The balloon contracts, and fluid moves back into the supply bag. This is not possible in a closed system, requiring manual intervention.
During patient transport, the required pressure can be set up with the free-flow in place, then the tap closed, allowing the pressure to continue to be applied during transit, even when the supply bag is moved to a lower position.
The free-flow system is also used to check if bleeding has stopped - the supply bag is lowered to reduce the applied pressure, and the patient checked for blood loss.
To use, fill the supply bag with 1L sterile water or spike a 1L saline bag.
Inserted transvaginally for both vaginal or caesarean births.
Can be left in place for up to 24 hours.
